About Ryan Jean Photography

I’m Ryan Jean, a South West of England-based photographer specialising in surf, adventure and coastal lifestyle photography.

My work is focused on capturing the energy, emotion and atmosphere that surround the ocean. From powerful action in the water to the quieter moments before and after a session, I create authentic imagery that tells a story and communicates the character of the people, places and brands I photograph.

Surf photography sits at the heart of my work. As a qualified ISA surf instructor, adaptive surf instructor and beach lifeguard, I bring first-hand knowledge of surf conditions, lesson structure and water safety to every shoot. This experience allows me to anticipate key moments, work confidently around surfers and instructors, and capture images that feel natural rather than staged.

I have particular experience photographing surf schools, adaptive surfing programmes, outdoor organisations and purpose-led brands. My work aims to show more than just the activity itself. I look for the connection, determination, enjoyment and sense of freedom that make ocean experiences so powerful.

Alongside action photography, I create commercial lifestyle imagery for businesses that want to communicate their identity through genuine visual storytelling. This can include campaign photography, website imagery, social media content, brand stories, events and behind-the-scenes documentation.

Whether I am photographing a surf lesson, an adaptive surfing session, a coastal business or an outdoor campaign, my approach is relaxed, collaborative and focused on producing high-quality images with lasting value.
